Painting is a form of thinking.

Paintings echo a perceptual process with visual layers. The surface of a painting can be like a door or a window - a conceptual lens through which our vision passes. For me, my paintings are a vehicle for individual introspection, organizing experiences, and a direct reaction to the complexity of the world and how I identify with it. For the viewer, paintings enable unique visual interpretations stimulated by personal influences. Memory and imagination become closely linked in that part of life that is felt, not easily articulated.

Through this work I explore the natural world, providing and layering a mixture of images both simple and complex that encourage, appreciate and respect for something larger than ourselves.

The natural world offers a myriad of multiples - a grove of trees, ripples on the water, a sky filled with birds, a river of fish, a shore full of rocks. I strive to portray the energy of nature: the forces that drive water, the flow of air around us, the rock formations, the structures of trees and plants, and the conversations and movements of animals. I probe the power and fragility of nature in its constant state of flux. This emphasis shows the dependence and interdependence of each natural element and their delicate connections. By celebrating the layers of nature and raising awareness, I seek to inspire a greater respect for the environment we all share.
